On the road to ISO 9001:2015

According to the On Line 9000 Store, the ISO year 2015 ISO Standard for manufacturers i.e. ISO 9001:2015 will be replacing the current ISO 9001:2008 and will be phased in over three years.  A draft has already been released as of this writing ( June 2014) It wll be the first major revision since 9001:2000, which was a melding of ISO 9001, ISO 9002 and ISO 9003.  ISO 9000:2015 will be an integrated standard encompassing ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001, and ISO 22301.  According to the 9000 ISO Store (1) one of the changes will be 10 Sections instead of 8 as in 9001:2008 version, the two new sections being performance management and evaluation, which is supposed to help in melding the various standards into a company's management system. (2) Movement away from preventive action and corrective action in favor of an overall risk management strategy.(3) Movement toward a sustainability business model, emboding consideration of energy usage, corporate social responsibility,  and business resilence and strategies for insuring business continuity.(4) an opening for relief from intense hard copy record keeping, which seems to be recogition of the trend toward cloud computing and storage.

In any case since Global Manufacturing Services, Inc.desires to become ISO registered; it appears that our best strategy in view of the new ISO 9001:2015 being on the horizon is to become compliant with ISO 9001:2008. and begin studying ISO 9001:2015 so that when the standard is published in about July 2015; we can be ready very quickly to become registered with the most current standard.

That is where we are heading.  We are starting now (June, 2014) and expect to be compliant with ISO 9001:2008 by the end of 2014.   Due to the cost of gaining registration, our small company should simply improve our procedures and record keeping and be ready for an audit by anyone who has requirements to do business with a registered manufacturer.
